Second Team Away Match v Lincolnshire 2014

NottsIILincs14The 1st match of the season for the 2nd team was away to Lincolnshire at Sleaford on Monday 30th June. It was a lovely sunny day and the rain showers held off, unlike at home. The course was in excellent condition but proved rather tricky to manage without local knowledge.

Amy Oxbury was making her début for the team and played top with Emily Cheshire in the morning foursomes. They had played alongside each other in the junior competitions. Unfortunately they could not beat their opponents Rachel Woodcock and Beth Shippin. Caron Harrison and Carol Houghton had the edge over Helen Mcdougall and Harriet Wilson until they discovered they had played a wrong ball at a hole which they thought they had won. This turned their match from being 2up to all square after that hole and they eventually lost 2down.

Australian Spoons 2014

ASWinners14Friday 27th June saw the Midland North Regional Final for the Australian Spoons, at Wollaton Park Golf Club. The day dawned quite wet, with a threat of thunder and lightning .....not what we had wanted. It did rain but not too hard, and we escaped the thunder and lightning, although we did have to ask all the competitors to read 'the suspension of play notice', before they went out on the course.

We had 60 entries from the 6 Midland North counties, with 4 pairs pulling out before the day. The winning pair with a score of 41 points, were, Susan Wenlock and Suzanne Burgess from Kibworth Springs in Leicestershire. Their prize, as well as a bottle of champagne, was entry into the National Final at Belton Park in September, including overnight accommodation, dinner and 2 rounds of golf.

In 2nd place with 37 points were Jan Lathbury and Sue Powell from Erewash; 3rd with 36 points were Joanna Burden and Kate Hall Jones from Woodhall Spa, and 4th, with 35 points, Lynne Worden and Donna Cunning from Beedles Lake.

Champ14WinnersThe NCLGA County Championship and Spring Meeting took place at Beeston Fields Golf Club 16th-18th May, 2014.

Defending champion Alex Peters hit the first shot to open the Championship on a glorious sun drenched Friday morning. Some 24 players took part in the Championship playing 36 holes with the top 16 going through to the knock out stages over Saturday and Sunday. A similar number took part in a trial of the new format of the Spring Meeting playing 18 holes. The weather was wonderful and Beeston Fields GC was presented beautifully. County Week 2014

Team2400The Midlands North Region Inter County Week was held at The Leicestershire Golf Club from 8-13 June, 2014.

The event started with a practice round on Sunday, 8th June and all went well. This was followed by the Welcome Party and Dinner. A good start to the week.

Day one saw Notts. playing Shropshire. The morning foursomes seeing some good golf from Notts. resulted in a two and a half to a half situation at lunchtime. A strong Notts. line up went on in the afternoon to win five of the six singles games. A good win and a good start (seven and a half to one and half points).

Day two saw Sophie Newlove have to leave us (exams) but Lianna Bailey came in. Against Leicestershire in the morning Notts. proved too strong and secured all three points in the foursomes. Leicestershire faired a little better in the afternoon securing two and a half points but the match was beyond them and Notts. won six and a half to two and a half.

Mixed Am-Am 2014

amam14aThe Mixed Open Am Am took place at Wollaton Park Golf Club on Sunday, 27th April, 2014. This is an event that is organised and run by the County Junior Girls in aid of their funds.
The event comprises a team of four - 2 ladies and 2 gentlemen, with the best ladies and gents stableford score counting on each hole.

The Junior Girls organised by their Captain, Sophie Newlove, worked very hard on the day running the desk, holding a putting competition, cleaning clubs and a raffle. In addition very professional (if rather strict!!) starting team saw everyone off on time.
The whole day realised a net profit to go to the junior funds of just over £830. A tremendous effort with very big thanks to all who helped and took part.
A real vote of thanks and gratitude must be recorded to Wollaton Park GC for agreeing to host the event and for their continued support of County Golf.
