Second Team Away Match v Lincolnshire 2014
The 1st match of the season for the 2nd team was away to Lincolnshire at Sleaford on Monday 30th June. It was a lovely sunny day and the rain showers held off, unlike at home. The course was in excellent condition but proved rather tricky to manage without local knowledge.
Amy Oxbury was making her début for the team and played top with Emily Cheshire in the morning foursomes. They had played alongside each other in the junior competitions. Unfortunately they could not beat their opponents Rachel Woodcock and Beth Shippin. Caron Harrison and Carol Houghton had the edge over Helen Mcdougall and Harriet Wilson until they discovered they had played a wrong ball at a hole which they thought they had won. This turned their match from being 2up to all square after that hole and they eventually lost 2down.
Glenys Priestley and Rosemary Skill played a hard fought match against Alex Smith and Hannah Vaughan narrowly losing on the 17th. The players did their best to gain some points in the afternoon singles but again the lack of local knowledge proved difficult. Caron Harrison was our saviour gaining our only point with some masterful putting against Beth Shippin. Carol Houghton also fought well only losing by 2/1 to Helen Mcdougall who had played in 2 singles matches this year for their 1st team.
Although the final result of the match was an 8-1 win for Lincolnshire it was good to see the friendly way in which the matches were played. My thanks to all the players and to my Assistant Vice Captain, Pam Loch for her support.
