Message from the Captain!

The First Team, County Captain, Vice Captain and Assistant Vice Captain would love to see lots of “NCLGA RED” at Hinckley Golf Club to support the team.
Everybody welcome - come along and see some first class match play golf.

The Team

The first team to attend MNR County week was selected after the championships and is as follows: Maddy Smith (Norwood Park), Amelia Wan (Notts Golf Club), Libby Kilbride (Notts Ladies), Vicky Johnson (The Nottinghamshire), Caron Harrison (Sherwood Forest), Emma Anderson (Sherwood Forest), Carol Houghton (The Nottinghamshire) and Julie Revill (Sherwood Forest). The selection was based on many factors including performance, availability and experience.

County week took place this year at Hinckley Golf Club and there was much anticipation as to how this event would be managed with the many Covid rules still in place. However, the Leicestershire and Rutland Ladies Golf Association had this all-in hand, and the event was well organised - our thanks go to them and Hinckley Golf Club for hosting us. Hinckley is a beautiful parkland course and was in terrific condition. It has some very quirky holes, and the greens are superb but challenging.

On day one we had a close match in the morning against Leicestershire and thought we were going to scrape 2½ points but just lost out. The afternoon presented us with a tough challenge - Staffordshire, but the team played well, and we took this match 3 points to 2. Day two Shropshire and then Derbyshire. In the morning more success, with a convincing win of 4½ to 1½. In the afternoon we faced Derbyshire and the team came through again 3 and 2. We were second in the table at this point and on day three facing Lincolnshire, a very tricky opponent! The team played well, but unfortunately; we suffered a defeat of 3½ to 1½. Our final placing was third, Lincolnshire won overall and I am sure that we will all wish them well for the England finals.

The team played some sparkling golf and gave it their all, it has been a pleasure to work with them and I can see a very bright future for our youngsters. Sincere thanks go to Audrey Macmillan who was a fantastic support to me during the week and to Eva Glasby and Caron Harrison for their wise words. Thanks to the team for playing their hearts out and I am most grateful to the caddies and parents who gave their time to encourage out not only their daughters but the whole team. Finally thank you to all the supporters who joined us during the week – I hope that you enjoyed it as much as I did.

I arrived home shattered but pleased with the accomplishments of our team and I look forward to watching their successes going forward.
