County Waltz 2014

Jane1The County Waltz took place on Monday, 7th April, at Stanton on the Wolds GC.

A full field of 31 teams (93 competitors) took part with the winners being the team from the host Club of Lady Captain, Carol Hulme, Louise Spray and Jane Harby returning 64 points. The close runners up with 63 points were the team from Notts. Ladies of Colette Newton, Ann Harris and Hilary Horton. In third place were the team from Beeston Fields of Rosemary Skill, Alison Pithkelthy and Jenny Smith with 62 points.

The whole day is designed towards raising funds to support the 1st and 2nd teams and thanks to the generosity of those taking part (my thanks to all of you for your support in playing and your contributions to the bottle raffle) and also to Stanton on the Wolds GC for agreeing to host the event an amazing £1360 was raised – absolutely fantastic!

My thanks on behalf of everyone concerned must be recorded to the Captain (Andrew Tutty) and Lady Captain (Carol Hulme) for the very warm welcome extended to all of us taking part and also to the Stanton on the Wolds members for allowing us to use their splendid course which despite the recent very wet conditions was presented beautifully.

NorwoodNorwood Park Golf Centre in Nottinghamshire has been recognised as one of the country's most welcoming clubs.

Their excellent record of attracting and encouraging new golfers and juniors has helped to make Norwood Park the joint runner-up in England Golf's prestigious 2014 GolfMark Club of the Year award, supported by COBRA PUMA GOLF.

Their success was announced at an awards dinner and Norwood Park general manager Paul Thornton commented: "This is fantastic. Paul, who also chairs the Nottinghamshire Golf Partnership, went on: "We're a young club, only 15 years old and always set out to be a very friendly, welcoming place where everyone is equal. Lady Presidents of Nottinghamshire Clubs

Marilyn Pinckett became the first Lady President of Rushcliffe Golf Club at their recent AGM in January. She has been a member of Rushcliffe for 40 years and was Vice President for the last 6 years.
She has been a 1st Division player for the last 39 years and her lowest handicap achieved was 8. She has represented Rushcliffe in all ladies county competitions over that time.
Marilyn has worked tirelessly over her 40 years of membership and is still doing so by researching and writing a history of the Junior Section of the club.

It seems to be a welcome trend, as we were also recently informed that Cynthia James has become the first Lady President of Kilton Forest Golf Club.

Our congratulations to them both.
