Lianna and Annabel Bailey & Alex Peters played in the British Open Amateur Strokeplay Championship at Prestwick 21st - 23rd August 2013. Alex & Annabel missed qualifying by 3 shots. After two very good par rounds of 74, Lianna qualified for the final two rounds. Another 74 followed in round 3 putting her in 13th place. Lianna's final round of 81 meant she finished 18= which is a very good result for a junior in an Open British Ladies event.
Well done Lianna.

2nd Team Away Match v Lincolnshire

Notts 2nd team played Lincolnshire at Stoke Rochford on 18th July. In the morning foursomes Caron Harrison and Janet Slater achieved an excellent 2/1 victory over the experienced pairing of Pam Watson and Cindy Ireland. Emily Lyle and Rosemary Skill were all square playing the last only to lose to a birdie 3. Making their 2nd team debuts Tanya Wainwright and Kate Crowther lost to Alex Smith and Alex Robson.
In the afternoon singles Emily Lyle lost to Billie Jo Smith with a very spirited fight back from Billie Jo who came from 3 down to win 2/1. Caron Harrison secured a half point with Cindy Ireland. Rosemary Skill managed a 2 up win over Alex Smith. Notts then suffered three losses with Janet Slater, Tanya Wainwright and Kate Crowther all losing to some excellent iron and putting play by their opponents.
Notts lost the match with the eventual result being six and half points to Lincolnshire two and a half points to Nottinghamshire.
The players enjoyed the course and performed well in very hot and tiring temperatures.
My thanks go to those that played.

2nd Team Away Match v Leicestershire

The last 2nd team match of the season was held at Lingdale GC on Sunday, 18th August, 2013.
The morning saw wins in the foursomes for the pairings of Rachel Boulton and Emily Lyle and Carol Houghton and Sue Reynolds. Good performances from Diana Payne and Leanne Martin who fought back from 5 down to be all square with two play unfortunately though they lost the last two holes to finish 2 down.
So going into the afternoon singles Notts. were 2-1 up.
Rachel Boulton leading the team secured a half point in an exceptionally good quality and good scoring game. Good wins followed in the singles for Sue Reynolds (especially as Sue was making her 2nd team debut), Carol Houghton and Emily Lyle. Diana and Leanne just losing their matches.
The final result being an excellent five and a half to three and half win for Notts.
My thanks go to all players that have played for the 2nd team this season, all have played well and been a credit to the County and we managed to finish 2nd overall.
Finally, my thanks also to Kathryn Horberry, Assistant Vice Captain, for her help and support throughout.

Summer Meeting 2013

summer2013Congratulations to Pat Grinter (The Nottinghamshire) who won the Handicap Cup at the Summer meeting held at Retford Golf Club on Monday 8th July. We had a very good entry this year and, in spite of the unusally warm weather, some very good scores. The early players had the slightly better conditions as there was quite a cloud cover until midday when the sun came out and roasted the afternoon ladies!

The staff and members were most welcoming and we look forward to returning in the not too distant future.

Congratulations to Emma Newlove who finished 14th in the English Women's Open Amateur Stroke Play Championship held at Mannings Heath from 6th - 8th August 2013, with scores of 79, 71, 73 & 78.

Well done also to Sophie Newlove, who is still a junior, and who qualified for the final two rounds, finishing 38th.

Jodie Peacock and defending champion Alex Peters also qualified for the final rounds.

2nd Team Home Match v Lincolnshire

Notts 2nd team played Lincolnshire on Sunday (7th July) on possibly one of the hottest days of the year at Wollaton Park Golf Club.
Notts had the edge in the morning foursomes winning 2 matches to 1 with wins coming from Rachel Boulton partnering Emily Lyle and Carol Houghton partnering Diana Payne. The partnership of Kathryn Horberry and Leanne Martin losing out to the strong pairing of Jayne Crooks and Michelle Willerton.
The afternoon singles were fairly even with wins for Rachel Boulton and Carol Houghton with Emily Lyle and Kathryn Horberry losing their matches. The games involving Leanne Martin and Diana Payne were crucial to the outcome of the match. Leanne showed real determination in coming from three down with three to play to square her match and secure a half point. The match rested on Diana who was all square with one to play. Despite being bunkered on the 18th Diana secured a magnificent half point to ensure that Notts won the match 5-4.
A very well done to all involved.

2nd Team Home Match v Leicestershire

Notts 2nd team played Leicestershire at Notts Golf Club on Sunday 11th August.
Notts got off to a great start in the morning foursomes. A solid opening win came from the pairing of Rachel Boulton and Emily Lyle. This was quickly followed by Leanne Martin and Glenys Priestley who played some excellent golf in only dropping a couple of shots in tricky conditions to secure their win. Unfortunately, Kate Crowther and Tanya Wainwright whilst playing some good golf went down to Alice Watson and Amy Taylor in their match.
With the wind getting up (fortunately keeping the rain away) Leicestershire proved too strong in the afternoon singles with Notts only wins coming from Rachel Boulton and Kate Crowther. The remaining players, Emily Lyle, Glenys Priestly, Leanne Martin and Tanya Wainwright all losing their matches.
The eventual result being a very close 5-4 win for Leicestershire.
My thanks to all the players that took part.
