Champion of Champions 2013

Jessica2013Congratulations to Jessica Bailey who won the U14's Champion of Champions at Lingdale GC on Sunday September 8th 2013.

A first round of 82 left Jessica in joint 1st place. In spite of being stung during the second round, Jessica scored an amazing one under par 71 which made her a clear winner.

The Champion of Champions involves all 12 midland counties with County Champions both boys and girls competing in U18, U16 and U14 age groups. This is the first year the girls have had an U14 Championship so Jessica's name will be first on the gold trophy.

Well done Jessica - another handicap reduction!

Rhiannon Linacre our Girls County Champion competed in the U16 group but our U18 representative Emily-Mae-Hall was unable to play as she was representing England Schools v Scotland.

St Andrews Junior Ladies Open

Annabel won her 1st round match but lost to India Clyburn in Round 2.

Well done girls!

British Amateur Strokeplay Championship

Lianna and Annabel Bailey & Alex Peters played in the British Open Amateur Strokeplay Championship at Prestwick  from 21st - 23rd August 2013.

Alex & Annabel missed qualifying by 3 shots. After two very good par rounds of 74, Lianna qualified for the final two rounds. Another 74 followed in round 3, putting her in 13th place. Lianna's final round of 81 meant she finished 18=, which is a very good result for a junior in an Open British Ladies event.

Well done Lianna.

Par 3 Competition at Edwalton

Edwalton2013On the hottest day of the year, eight girls without handicaps played the Par 3 course at Edwalton. Eleanor Bailey won the 10 years and under group with Francesca Price finishing 2nd, just one shot behind.

Laura Grahame won the 11 & 12 years group ahead of Ellie Bond.

Thank you to Edwalton for making us so welcome and to Lady Captain Judy Theobald and the Edwalton ladies who very kindly went round with the girls.

It was really too hot to play even 9 holes, so well done everyone!

League Match v Staffordshire 2013

LeagueStaffs2013The unbeaten run in the scratch league continued at Trentham Golf Club on Sunday 16th June, with a draw against Staffordshire.

The team had a tough challenge ahead of them as the Staffodshire girls knew the course well but none of the Notts girls had played there before.
However, they avoided the majority of the trees and battled well to produce a halved match.

The handicap team also produced a draw (2-2 result), with girls who were fairly closely matched in handicap.

All the girls commented how much they enjoyed the course and the sunshine added to the enjoyment (...especially for the spectators!)

Girls British Open Amateur Championship

Lianna and Annabel Bailey and Emily-Mae Hall entered the Girls British Open Amateur Championship at Fairhaven from the 12th - 16th August. This had a handicap limit of 4.4.

After two rounds of stroke play, Lianna and Annabel qualified for the match play stages. Sadly Lianna lost in the 1st round on the first extra hole. Annabel won her 1st round match 5 and 4 but lost 1 down in the second round. Close matches, well done girls.

There is a lot of tough competition from continental Europe in this championship.

Friendly Match v Yorkshire 2013

Yorks2013The Mid Handicap Girls played a Friendly Match v Yorkshire girls at Meltham GC on Sunday June 9th. Eight girls with handicaps from 12 - 25 enjoyed playing the hilly Meltham course which tested their course management skills. The Notts girls won 4 ½ : 3 ½ and the sun shone, a real bonus. Leanne Martin was our Captain for the day and she spoke very well on behalf of Notts at tea afterwards.

This was our first fixture against Yorkshire for a few years and we look forward to a return match in 2014 in Notts.

Well done girls!
