Junior 2nd Team Match v Leicestershire 2016

2vLeics16bThe match was played at the Lincoln Golf Club in glorious weather. Eight girls took part in the match, four from Nottinghamshire and four from Leicestershire. All of the girls played well on an unfamiliar course and showed great sportsmanship.

The final score of 2 - 2 was an extremely fair result.

We had two girls making their county debut but once they got into the swing of things nerves appeared to disappear. I think that a good day was had by all.

Individual Coaching Bursaries

NCLGA are please to announce these will continue in 2016 having been successfully trialed in 2015.
The application form for these bursaries can be downloaded and needs to be returned by Sunday 10th April. The applications will then be reviewed and bursaries awarded in late April.

The bursaries are aimed at developing potential talent so are not purely based on current ability. They also allow for a girl to retain their current coach rather than offering county coaching in a group session which may be with a different coach. It could also be used to address a specific skill gap with a specialist coach such as short game or putting.
As there is a finite amount of money allocated for the bursaries, we anticipate we will be awarding an amount of between £60-100 for each successful applicant. The criteria we will be using to assess the applications are as follows:

• Their handicap and their age
• Accessibility to play and practice
• Progress within the last 12 months
• Recommendation from coaching pros
• Commitment to golf
• How the bursary will help

Once a bursary is granted the player has until the end of September to use it and will be required to fill in a feedback form.

The event comprises a team of four, 2 ladies and 2 gentlemen, with the best ladies and gents stableford score counting on each hole.

The Junior Girls organised by their Captain, Esme Hamilton, worked extremely hard on the day running the desk, acting as starters, holding a putting competition, cleaning clubs and a raffle. Esme was assisted by Kristina Lazarevic, Jacey Peacock, Charlotte Hazelwood, Charlie Inger and Chloe Steele. Their combined efforts saw them raise over £340 in those activities alone. In addition Esme's mum Katrina should be thanked for her help with club cleaning in the cold!

The whole day realised a net profit to go to the junior funds of just over £1147. A brilliant effort, and our sincere thanks to all those who participated in the day. A real vote of thanks and gratitude must be recorded to Rufford Park GC for agreeing to host the event and for their continued support of County Golf.

Friendly Match v Mapperley 2016

Mapperley16aOn Thursday 7th April the Junior Girls started their season with a friendly match against Mapperley Ladies. The team was Stephanie Firth, Lucy Holbrough, Charlie Inger, Katie Robertson, Chloe Steele, and acting Captain Georgia Viggers.
The match was played in a great spirit and the Mapperley ladies helped mentor the girls with advice on course management and hitting off sloping lies, something they are experts at! For the second year running the match was halved.

This match is used an opportunity to give some of our up and coming players experience of playing in the county team. So, although it was the first match for both Lucy and Chloe, they both remained outwardly very calm on the first tee and hit great tee shots out of sight, well done girls!

Our sincere thanks go to the Mapperley Ladies for the contribution they make to the junior girls by hosting the match and giving up their time to play.

JubileewinnersThis competition was reinstated and revamped for 2015 and was held at Sherwood Forest Golf Club on 1st November 2015. The event was changed to an AM-AM with the girls all split into teams so that the handicaps were balanced. This allowed the more experienced players to mentor the girls who were newer to golf.

The day proved a success both with the sun shining and with 15 girls playing in the main event. The overall winners were Stephanie Firth (Beeston), Emily Lyle (Worksop) and Georgia Viggers (Stanton).

In addition we had 7 younger girls play in the 8 hole competition which was set up over the first fews holes at Sherwood. This was split into two age groups, the winner of the U12 was Rebecca Oates (Worksop) and the U9 winner was Heather McCrorie (Norwood).
