Ping Grand Final 2018

LizzieMaddiePingCongratulations to Lizzie Wilson and Madeleine Smith who qualified for the 2018 Grand Final of the Ping 4BBB, played at Gainsborough GC on 4 Sept. They finished in a very creditable 18th position with 42 points. Well done girls!

Nippers Tour 2018

The Nippers Tour 2018 started on a bitingly cold day at Kilton Forest GC, a stark contrast to the baking heat of the fifth round at Sherwood Forest GC. As well as the individual competitions, the results go towards the Nippers Order of Merit competition which is arranged in age groups from under 12 to under 6, with players doing 9, 6 or 4 holes depending on age.

In the 5 events held so far, the girls are performing very well, with Amelia Wan currently leading the Under 12’s and Amelia Hogg also putting in some solid performances. In the Under 11’s Maddison Clarke is leading, with Emily Toft-Brown and Freya Keal putting in some great rounds. In the under 10 competition, Elizabeth Wilson is continuing a great season which has seen her handicap reduce rapidly and of course not forgetting well done to Millie Marsh who is competing in the under 8 competition and putting in some great rounds.

It has been fantastic to see so many girls taking part in all weathers and always with a smile, congratulations to everyone and good luck to everyone who is competing in the remaining competitions. For more details and individual competition results see here.

Lizzie and dad are Ping Family Champions!

Lizzie PingGolf mad 10-year-old Lizzie Wilson and her dad, Craig, are the new PING Family Fourball Betterball champions. The Nottinghamshire pair teamed up to score 45 points over the Thonock Park course at PING’s Gainsborough Golf Club and took the title by the slender margin of one point.
“I played best!” laughed Lizzie, who has cut her handicap by 11 shots this season and now plays off 24. “I’ve had great fun playing with my dad and our playing partners were very nice. I’ve made some new friends and it’s been a great experience." Craig added: “It’s been a fantastic day.” They took on the challenge of related pairs from across the country, who flock to play in this popular competition run by England Golf.
Last year Craig and his wife, Claire, took part for the first time and this year they decided to include Lizzie, who has been playing since she was eight. “My wife and I played last year and it was a fantastically organised day. This year we thought that Lizzie could play and I got lucky she was paired with me! It’s been a great day,” said Craig, a 13-handicapper. Claire, who plays off 12, played with another member from their club, Norwood Park Golf Centre, and has already staked a claim to be Lizzie’s partner in 2019!

Junior Coaching News

CoachingSo far this season we’ve had 3 coaching sessions at Rufford Park GC for the girls- and we’ve had a great turnout each session. The girls have found the sessions very valuable, which has shown in the reduction of so many handicaps! We have 2 more sessions of the season left, which are the 11th August and 15th September.

Through the coaching sessions the girls have built on and created new friendships, which has shown through in the great team spirit in all matches played so far this season.

We hope to see as many of the girls at the final two coaching sessions as possible!

Midlands North Festival of Golf 2018

Festival 1aOnce again the Festival of Golf, held at Trent Lock Golf Club on 20th August, was a great day for all the players, with Nottinghamshire entering a first team, handicap team and 9 hole players in the events during the day. The first team of Charlie, Maddie, Lucy, Eva, and Amelia Wan played hard only narrowly losing the overall match 2:3 against Derbyshire, but showing great determination along with a good team spirit and it was good to see the team supporting their players at the end of their games.

The handicap team of Jorja, Elizabeth, Lexi, Rachel and Lucy reversed the previous result winning 3:2 in an equally close contest with two of the games finishing all square in well fought battles. Well done to Lexi and Elizabeth on making their first appearance for the county teams, and also to Amelia Hogg on her debut in match play competition, playing a friendly against a Derbyshire player.

MNR Scratch League 2018 - Round 1

Telford 2aA mixture of results for the first round matches of the scratch league which were held at Telford Golf and Country Club on Saturday 14th July. There were two 18 hole matches: Staffordshire in the morning and Shropshire in the afternoon. The weather was particularly warm but the team of Ankita Anand, Lucy Holbrough, Eva Waplington, Madaleine Smith and Jorja Newbold were in good form. All performed exceptionally well in their first outing for the scratch team, Lucy, Eva and Madaleine recording a fine win for Notts.

An even hotter afternoon saw the girls facing fresh players form the home team Shropshire but our girls gave absolutely everything, just losing 2 games on the 17th and another on the 15th although 2 impressive wins by Lucy and Eva on the 13th and 15th respectively could only see us losing the match 3 - 2

An amazing team effort and many thanks to our supporting parents.

MNR Scratch League 2018 - Round 2

Birstall18A very hot and humid day was challenging for all the girls at Birstall in the Scratch league matches on July 27th. However the team of Amelia, Charlie, Lucy, Ava and Maddie played with determination and good spirit. In the morning against Staffs. Lucy and Ava had good wins and in the afternoon match against Lincs Amelia and Maddie had very good wins. Unfortunately in both we narrowly lost the match 2 - 3, but the team fought hard all the way and supported each other well.

Girls & Intermediate Championships 2018

SophieThe 2018 Girls and Intermediate County Championships were held on Sunday 8th July. With the country in the middle of a heatwave, Wollaton Park Golf Club was in glorious condition and the scores lived up to expectation. First out were the Intermediate Section, a strong fields of all single figure handicappers. It was no surprise that the Scratch trophy was won with a low score, although Sophie Newlove’s gross 67 impressed all of us. Sophie’s course record score of 7-under won the Betty Jackson Intermediate Salver and the scratch golfer also took home the Nett prize.

From the oldest competitors to the youngest. There was also tough competition for the 9-hole Championship but it was home player Molly Campbell that walked away victorious. Molly shot a gross 51, nett 26 over 9 holes to win the Championship with her incredible 12 under score. One to watch for the future! There were also impressive performances for Amelia Hogg and Maddison Clarke.
