The Junior Jubilee and presentation for 2021 was held at Coxmoor Golf Club on Sunday 31st October - which explains the Halloween theme! Unfortunatelly the weather was not in our favour and the Junior Jubilee competition had to be cancelled, so when the sun did come out for 30 minutes we had an enjoyable putting competition. The competition was organised by Maddie Smith and Ava Waplington, incoming and outgoing Junior Captains, and was won by Jorja Newbold, our incoming Vice-Captain. The Captain's changeover took place and also the ceremonial handover of the County flag; Ava's dad Simon handing it over to Maddie's mum Katherine to look after in 2022.
Afterwards there was a presentation of trophies and certificates - each girl is given a certificate of all the their achievements over the year. County Captain Helen Haycox also presented the trophies from the County Championships which several of the girls had won. A special mention must be made of the excellent 1st round by Maddie Smith to set a new ladies course record of 67 (8 under par) at Hollinwell.
The girls also showed off the trophy presented to them for winning the MNR league for 2021. Well done to all the girls who played this season and congratulation to all the girls on their successes throughout the year.
The annual end of season match against the County Boys was played on Sunday 10th October 2021 at Sherwood Forest Golf Club The weather was very kind, the course was in excellent condition and the standard of golf was outstanding. After very close matches and a great day of golf by everyone, congratulations go to the girls on their 3 - 2 win. Many thanks to Sherwood Forest for hosting the event and to all those who played.
The MNR Festival of Golf and finals day was once again held at Trent Lock Golf Club on Monday 16th August 2021. It was a very successful day for all of the players from Notts, Lincs, Leics, Derbys, Staffs and Shrops who were involved in the many events played on the day.
The Scratch team played Derbyshire in their final match of the season. With Maddie Smith and Amelia Wan both playing away in national competitions, the team of Ava Wapplington, Jorja Newbold, Elizabeth Wilson, Lucy Moorhouse and Amelia Hogg lost by 3½ to 1½ but this was just enough for the Scratch team to take the MNR Junior League for 2021. Well done to them all!
A great day was had by all and some of it was captured by the team from Sky Sports, so watch out for it!
Talented teen Elizabeth Wilson blew away the field with a Stableford score of 39 points to win the England Women’s Medal Final at Woodhall Spa. The 13-year-old from Norwood Park was thrilled to be crowned champion and take home a title which is regarded as the pinnacle for female handicap club golfers in England. Elizabeth, who plays off a handicap index of 2.3, produced an excellent level par scratch round on the Bracken Course. Her score of 39 points gave her a winning margin of three from runner up Katie Clark from Stoke by Nayland and Longridge’s Sally Tyler.
Elizabeth made it through from a club event before carrying on her good form at Belton Park in a regional qualifier – one of six held across the country. With dad Craig on the bag and helping to calm any nerves, Wilson was able to play freely and display the form which helped her make it to England trials this year. A former participant in Girls Golf Rocks at her home club Norwood Park, she now hopes to continue to step up the golfing ladder.
Congratulations Elizabeth!
The Junior second team match against Leicestershire took place on 5th August at Charnwood Forest Golf Club. The girls played really well in a close match but eventually lost 4/1. Well done to Maddison who won in her first outing for NCLGA in the reserve match. The girls are getting ready for their photo! It really did rain!
The second round of the MNR Junior League scratch matches were played at Westwood GC on Sunday 25th July. It was another great day with the scratch team winning 4 - 1 against both Lincolnshire and Leicestershire. Well played girls!
In other news; Junior Captain Ava Waplington at junior coaching with the future stars of the Nottinghamshire team.
The first round of the MNR Junior League scratch matches were played at Chevin on Sunday 4th July. In the morning match against Staffordshire, our team of Amelia Wan, Maddy Smith, Jorja Newbold, Ava Wapplington and Elizabeth Wilson scored a great 3½ - 1½ victory. This was Elizabeth's first scratch match for Notts and she started with a great 7&6 victory! After a 90 minute delay for thunder and lightning, the afternoon match against Shropshire got under way. Ava was injured and so Lucy Moorhouse had her first scratch match, where she had a 5&4 win in the team's 4½ - ½ victory. All in all a very successful day - well played girls!
