County Championship & Spring Meeting 2022

finalists2022aOn Friday 13th May, at Sherwood Forest GC, we held the 36 hole stroke play stage of the County Championships, and also the 18 hole Spring Meeting. Sherwood was as magnificent as always, but presented an extremely hard challenge due to the strong gusty wind, which did not let up all day! Despite this, there were some very good scores in both events.

In the 36 holes, Maddie Smith (Norwood) won the scratch prize with 145, and Amelia Hogg (Norwood) won the nett with 147. Norwood Park also won the team prize, their youthful team of Maddie, Elizabeth Wilson and Amelia retaining the trophy they won last year.

The Spring Meeting scratch prize was won by Bev Cook (The Nottinghamshire) with 84, with Helen Haycox, also from The Nottinghamshire winning the nett prize with 74. Maggie Burrows from Mapperley added to the excitement of the day with a hole in one on the 10th - no mean feat into that strong wind!

Match v Sheffield Union 2022

Our first fixture of 2022, a BetterBall match against Sheffield Union, was held at Renishaw Park on Friday 22nd April. This is a course which needs accuracy at the best of times, and it was a particularly tough test on Friday with firm ground and gusty winds. We had a very enjoyable, close match and managed to clinch the win, 3 - 2. Our team was a useful mix of youth and experience, and both the standard of play and the competitive team spirit were very encouraging!

The team :

- Carol Houghton & Jorja Newbold
- Ava Waplington & Loraine Howd
- Lizzy Wood & Millie Marsh
- Bernie Barton & Julie Revill
- Libby Kilbride & Lesley Morris

Our hosts looked after us well, and I’d like to thank them, all my players and my Vice-Captain Caron Harrison who helped the day run smoothly.

Captain

Beryl has Birthday Hole-in-One

Beryl CPOn the week of her 80th Birthday the ladies of College Pines had arranged a surprise celebration for this founder member of the club. But Beryl was about to spring her own surprise which brought about more than the usual cheers.

A regular and keen player Beryl plays several times a week with her husband Barrie or other lady members. With the best of timing, in every respect, Beryl scored her first “Hole in One” at the par 3 11th hole at the Nottinghamshire course.

Happy 80th Birthday Beryl!
