County Championship & Spring Meeting 2018
This year the County Championship and Spring Meeting was held at Stanton On The Wolds Golf Club over the weekend 11th-13th May. The course was in excellent condition with the greens proving to be very challenging not only in speed but also with some strategically placed pin positions. The weather was dry and bright but there was a chilly breeze making conditions difficult. We had 18 players taking part in the County Championship playing 36 holes, with the top 8 going through to knockout stage, and 34 playing in the 18 holes Spring Meeting played alongside the morning round of the Championship.
The Spring Meeting was won by 11 year old Amelia Wan from Rufford with a nett score of 68 playing off a handicap of 9, taking the prizes for both the 18 holes Spring Meeting Handicap and the 18 holes Spring Meeting Scratch with a Gross 77, plus The Stacey Scrimshaw Salver for 21 years and under. The 36 Holes Scratch was won by Lauren Spray (77 & 79) and the 36 Holes Handicap won by Lou Beaumont from Coxmoor, who also scored a nett 68 in the first round.
The quarter finals of the Championship were played on Saturday afternoon resulting in wins for Emma Howie, Emily Rowbottom, Libby Kilbride and Emily Lyle taking them into the semi finals which were played on Sunday Morning. We were treated to some great golf, first to win through was Emily Rowbottom (Cheshire), reaching the final for the second time in the last three years, beating Emma Howie, followed by 15 year old Libby Kilbride winning on the last hole against Emily Lyle. In the final Libby took an early lead and didn’t let go, finally closing out the the match on the 15th after some excellent golf from both players. Many congratulations to our new County Champion Libby Kilbride.
A big thank you to Stanton On The Wolds Golf Club and the members for their help and support of NCLGA in allowing us to use their course over the weekend.
