Taskers Trophy Final 2017
The TaskersTrophy is an inter-club golf competition for the over fifties which is supporting junior golf in your county. The 2017 Final was played at Wollaton Park Golf Club on Sunday 8 October. It was a fine but somewhat windy day and players were warned about the Deer, with the Stags being in the rutting season.
In the final of the ladies’ Taskers event, Branston A played against Whittington Heath in order to win the Burtoft Trophy. The matches were well contested but Branston A ladies beat Whittington Heath ladies 6/1. The men’s Taskers Final and Plate were also played and the Hillsborough Team won the men’s Taskers and the Chevin B Team won the men’s Taskers Plate. The Taskers Plate is for all teams that get knocked out in the first round. If a few more ladies’ teams enter, the ladies will be able to have a ladies’ Plate competition as well.
As a result of Clubs entering ladies’ teams in this event, the Nottinghamshire County Ladies’ Junior Section receives funding which is proportional to the number of ladies’ teams entered from Nottinghamshire. This resulted in NCLGA receiving a donation of £800, slightly less than last year because a few less ladies’ teams had entered The Taskers in 2017.
I would like to encourage all Clubs to enter as many ladies’ teams as they can. It is a great event to play in because teams have the opportunity and pleasure of playing other teams from other courses in this County and the surrounding Counties. It’s a win, win situation and. if more ladies’ teams enter from Nottinghamshire, more money will be received by our County Junior Girls at the end of the year.
Once the matches had been finalised, some had to go up the 19th hole to obtain a result, the teams and County Officials were treated to an excellent roast beef dinner with all the trimmings, choice of dessert and coffee or tea. The prize-giving then took place and the County Presidents received the donation to their County Juniors. It was a wonderful event and I have sent thanks to the Taskers organisers for continuing to run the tournament and raise funds for Junior Golf.
