County Captain's Day Am-Am 2017
Beeston Fields was the venue for this year’s County Captain’s Day on Monday 24th July. The day started with cool grey clouds before the sun came out in the afternoon to provide a lovely setting for the day.
A full field of 160 ladies from a wide cross-section of clubs in the county played in the AM-AM, with some excellent scores recorded on the day. Our thanks must go to Beeston for presenting the course in such wonderful condition, not an easy task for a competition held first thing on a Monday morning after a wet and windy weekend!
The half-way house at the top of the 10th hole provided a welcome break for our players who enjoyed some wonderful cakes and a cup of tea. Many thanks to Trent Marquees for providing the beautiful marquee for the day and to all the bakers in the county who made such delicious cakes – what fantastic talent we have in the county!
The competition was won by a team from Ruddington Grange with a magnificent 90 points. Angela Picker, Wendy Kerry, Lorraine Howd and Josie Connolly played some excellent golf to win by a clear three points over the second place team from The Nottinghamshire – Carol Houghton, Lesley Morris, Helen Haycox and Dawn Frith.
In third place, on the back nine with 85 points was the Trent Lock team of Jean Stones, Tracey Krupa, Wendy Adcock and Anne Gray. And in fourth place the Chilwell team of Julie Griffiths, Sue Cobb, Sadie Brodniewska and Teresa Nightingale.
I am very grateful to Dave Boultby, Mark Philpott, Cliff Evans and Colin Maber, who very kindly sponsored the four nearest-the-pin prizes for the competition. These four prizes were amazingly won by just two players. Emma Howie from Stanton won both the 3rd and the 11th while Margot Dickson from Norwood won the 8th and the 14th. Congratulations to both for some very accurate golf.
Thanks to everyone who played on the day and to all the helpers who gave up their time to work on the desk and in the half-way house. Also to everyone who supported the raffle, donating some wonderful prizes and purchasing tickets. Finally, a massive thanks to Beeston Fields for allowing us courtesy of the course for the day and for providing such a wonderful buffet. The day was a huge success and has raised a significant sum to help fund the County Team this year.
