County Championship & Spring Meeting 2017

Wollaton Park Golf Club was the venue for the NCLGA 2017 Spring Meeting and County Championship which took place over the weekend 12th – 14th May. The course was presented beautifully and was in excellent condition, with some fantastic scores being recorded. On Friday, the waterproofs came into use as there were a few heavy showers during the day, but the rest of the weekend was largely sunny and breezy and the spectators were treated to a great display of golf.
The weekend started with two competitions being run on Friday. The Spring Meeting 18-hole competition took place in the morning, with a further round in the afternoon making up the 36-hole qualifying competition for the Championship, with the top 8 gross scores going through to a match-play competition over the weekend.
Young talent shone through in Spring Meeting, with the two best nett scores of the morning going to two thirteen year olds. Rebecca Oates from Worksop recorded a nett 65, a full 7 shots below her handicap of 20 to win Spring Meeting, while Leonie Muir from Wollaton Park followed with a nett 69 to claim the runner-up prize. Wonderful scores from our future young stars.

Lauren Spray from Notts Ladies played very solid golf in both rounds on Friday scoring a gross 73 in the morning and 72 in the afternoon, but a great afternoon score from fourteen-year-old Libby Kilbride from Worksop pushed Lauren into second place for the scratch prize of the day. Libby took just 68 shots in the afternoon to break the Wollaton Park course record and win the overall 36-hole scratch competition with a score of 144, beating Lauren by one shot.

The quarter finals were played on Saturday afternoon with Libby Kilbride, Emma Howie, Rachel Boulton and Lauren Spray going through to the semi-finals on Sunday morning.
The spectators enjoyed some excellent matches on Sunday, with Emma Howie and Rachel Boulton making it through to the final, with Rachel winning on the 16th after some wonderful golf from both players.
Many congratulations to our new County Champion Rachel Boulton and to all who took part in this great weekend of golf.
We are very grateful to Wollaton Park Golf Club for their continued support of NCLGA and for allowing us the use of their course and for all their help over the weekend in the administration of the competition.

County Week Selection

The players selected to go forward to represent Nottinghamshire at the Midlands North Region County Week to be held at Matlock Golf Club, Derbyshire on 26th-30th June are (in alphabetical order):
Rachel Boulton, Emily Cheshire, Esme Hamilton, Caron Harrison, Carol Houghton, Emma Howie, Libby Kilbride, Kristina Lazarevic, Emily Lyle, Laura Morris, Lauren Spray. The non-travelling reserve is Carol Wild.
This competition will be played over 5 days against Derbyshire, Leicestershire, Lincolnshire, Shropshire and Staffordshire, with 36 holes played each day (three foursomes matches in the mornings and six singles in the afternoons). Last year, we claimed second place after winning the national title the year before. We have a very talented team again this year and will be trying very hard to reclaim our title.
This is an excellent opportunity to see some great golf being played and we will be delighted to welcome any support from our members during the week.
