Autumn Meeting 2015
The County Autumn Meeting took place on Thursday 10th September at Norwood Park Golf Club. The weather was perfect, with warm sunshine throughout the day and the beautiful trees laden with fruit reminded us that it was the autumn season. 35 competitors took part representing 12 clubs. The course was in excellent condition and the tricky borrows on the greens were a challenge to the players. This was reflected in the competition scratch score for the day increasing to 73 from the norm of 72.
The best golf of the day and winner of the Scratch Challenge Bowl came from Bernie Barton of The Nottinghamshire with the lowest gross score of 83. Playing off a handicap of 14 this also enabled her to produce the lowest nett score of 69 and take the Handicap Challenge Bowl. Bernie was also awarded the Coronation Silver Medal for the lowest nett score in the silver division. Perhaps we need to alter a well known saying to "a little of what you don't know does you good!" as this was Bernie's first visit to the course.
The next best nett score of the day was an excellent nett 70 by Angela Picker of Ruddington Grange playing off a handicap of 17. The leading nett score in the bronze division and winner of the Coronation Bronze Medal came from Rachel Bryan of the Nottinghamshire with a nett 73 playing off a handicap of 24. These scores by Bernie (nett 69) and Rachel (nett 73), combined with those of fellow club members Helen Haycox (nett 75) and Julie Rose (nett 77) meant that, with a total nett of 294, The Nottinghamshire retained the Jubilee Shield for the leading club.
Trophies are also awarded at this meeting for the aggregate of scores from this meeting and those from the summer meeting which this year was held at Sherwood Forest Golf Club in July.
The Cavendish Bentinck Aggregate Scratch Cup was won by Kathryn Horberry of Coxmoor with gross 82 + 87 = 169.
The Challenge Aggregate Handicap Cup was won by Angela Picker of Ruddington Grange with nett 80 + 70 = 150.
