County Captain's Day 2022
After a stressful few days, listening to the heatwave forecasts and debating what was the best course of action, we decided to go ahead with my Captain’s Day at Hollinwell on 18th July 2022, with some alterations to the course and the timings to make it more manageable. We reduced the number of holes to 13, missing out the tough loop round the top, and brought as many of the tee times forward as we could. Several teams chose not to play, knowing the heat would be too much for some of their players, but it was lovely that some of those ladies did come up for their meal, to socialise and maybe even win a raffle prize!
26 teams did compete, and a hearty congratulations to all of them. It was hard work out there!
The winners were Sally McGarvey, Josie Connolly, Alison MacShane and Angela Picker from Ruddington Grange, pictured relaxing at the halfway halt, with an impressive 62 points. Then followed 5 teams all on 60 points! On countback these finished :
2nd - Jan Hooley, Pam Musson, Elaine Shelton, Di Hardwick from Stanton on the Wolds
3rd - Sue West, Carol Wild, Suzanne Pretty, Jeanette Watson from Notts Ladies/ Longcliffe
4th - Lesley Chrispin, Jayne Mokes, Jean Potts, Judy Walford from College Pines
5th - Margaret Ferguson, Tracy Walker, Kay Wakefield, Sue Arnold from Stanton on the Wolds
6th - Carol Houghton, June McFarlane, Lesley Morris, Jackie Rowe from The Nottinghamshire
Suzanne Pretty was having an accurate day - she won the Silver division Nearest the Pin on both the 5th and 9th! The Bronze winners were Charlie Hall from Southwell on the 5th, and June McFarlane from The Nottinghamshire on the 9th. All great shots!
Thank you to all of the kind volunteers from County and Notts Ladies who worked very hard and uncomplainingly in the heat, as starters, spotters, raffle supremo, refreshment providers, on the desk, ‘Rescue Marshall’ and general gofers. The raffles raised an amazing £505 to support the County Teams - thank you everyone!
Thank you also to Hollinwell for generously providing their wonderful course, and thanks to their helpful and pleasant staff (inside and out) who helped before and during the event. This was not quite the Captain’s Day I had envisioned, but despite the very difficult and unusual weather conditions, we had a successful and I hope enjoyable day!
Note : We found a Hippo plus sand wedge on the 8th - please get in touch with me if you think it is yours.
