Midland North Girls Festival of Golf 2017
The MNR Girls' Festival of Golf took place at Trent Lock Golf club on Monday 21st August with over with 100 girls from the 6 counties aged 6-18 taking part in a variety of activities.
The event, now in its second year, proved again what a fun day is had by all involved; a mixture of golf on the course, the pirate golf challenge, a drive chip putt competition and a firm favourite the trick shot show!
I’m pleased to say on the day both the handicap and scratch teams won their final matches of the season, The scratch team 4-1 against Derbyshire and the handicap team 3-2 against Staffordshire.
The win for scratch team meant that they were in the running to win the overall league this year. After a short wait to see the result for Staffordhire who were on the same number of wins prior to the day we discovered they had also won their match. The results were then calculated on game wins and Nottinghamsire managed to finish half a point ahead so won the league for 2017!
Well done to the team this year who was represented by Esme Hamilton, Libby Kilbride, Laura Abbott, Kristina Lazarevic, Sharna Betteridge, Jacey Peacock, Leonie Muir, Charlie Inger, Rebecca Oats, Safi Durant.
After the serious golf the CJOs demonstrated their competitive streak in their annual pirate putting challenge, again I was unable to claim bragging rights and the trophy went to Shropshire this year.
The day finished with a meal and presentation of the prizes by Lauren Spray, England Golf's Women and Girls Participation Manager, who attended the day to support the event and worked very hard on the desk too, along with Emily Cheshire, Nottinghamshire County Development Officer.
Our thanks to Alice Lowe from Derbyshire who took on responsibility to organise the event this year and did a brilliant job. She was ably supported by helpers from all counties including NCLGA officials Helen Maber, Jenny Smith and Emma Anderson, and Val Peat who volunteered as a referee for the day. A final big thank you must go to Trent Lock Golf Club for hosting the event again. It appears the rest of the counties agree it is a great venue as Staffs who are organising next year have been in touch to book in for next year!
